Gertrude Catherine Eyerman Smith, 79, of Orange, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. She was born February 27, 1933 in Wilkes-Barre a daughter of the late Frank and Edith Johnson Eyerman.
A graduate of G. A. R. Memorial High School she was a faithful member of St. Frances X. Cabrini Church, Carverton. Mrs. Smith was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She dedicated her life to her husband and her family and most recently enjoyed the visits of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed giving her paintings to her family as well as many hand made crafts. Gertrude’s favorite flower was the yellow rose. For many years she and her husband spent the winter months in Florida. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Eyerman, sisters, Irene Schiel and Frances Fino.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Thomas Smith, Sr., with whom she celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on May 5, 2012; children, Mary Struckus and her husband, Thomas, Orange, Robert Thomas Smith, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, Wilkes-Barre, Roxanne Castrignano and her husband, Frank, Trucksville, Brian F. X. Smith and his wife, Donna, Chase, Debra Wood and her husband Craig, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, T.J. Struckus, Wendy Collins, Brian P. Smith, Jennifer Howe, Melanie Derby, Meagan Risch, Heather Fuller, Sean Smith, Brandon Smith, Kendra Fuller, Erin Smith, Josh Smith, Mary Ellen; great grandchildren, Alyssa, Samantha, Alexandria, Gabrielle, Morgan, Mackenzie, Nicholas, Ashleigh, Brianna, Tommy, Nathan, Tyler, Kyree, Hunter, Harlan; brother, George Eyerman, Larksville; sisters, Mildred Klepacki, Wilkes-Barre, who was also her best friend, Catherine Paul, Wilkes-Barre, Theresa Castro, Philadelphia; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9:45 a.m. from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in St. Frances X. Cabrini Church, Carverton.
Interment will be in Idetown Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 5-7 p.m. |
